Censerva asks for what every port needs. It does not know what your port needs, and until now the only way to record it was the notes box, where nothing can be required, checked, searched or reported on.
Custom fields close that. In Settings → Custom Fields an account owner defines the extra questions a record should ask — text, a number, a tick box or a web link — and from then on the form asks them. A field can be made mandatory, a number can be given a minimum and a maximum, a piece of text a maximum length. The record cannot be saved until the rules are met, and the message names the field and says why.
Vessels and port calls asked for them first. Incidents, services and resources now do too, which means all five record types are covered. Each form shows only the fields configured for its own record type, and a record type with no fields configured looks exactly as it did before.
The rules are checked in the browser as you type and again on the server before anything is written, using the same rules in both places. An answer the form accepts is one the server will accept — you are never told a mandatory reference was recorded when it was not.
A field is withdrawn rather than deleted. It stops being asked on new records, every answer already recorded stays visible, and it can be restored later.
