A service job records work performed for a vessel: towage, mooring, bunkering, waste reception, survey, whatever your port provides.

Raising a job

A job belongs to a port and, usually, to a port call. It can also be tied to a specific step of the visit plan — a towage job attached to the arrival move rather than to the visit in general — which is what makes it possible to ask later how long a particular manoeuvre actually took.

Jobs can be raised against a service catalogue, so the same service is named the same way every time. A catalogue entry is configuration, so an account owner maintains it.

Cargo

Where a job moves cargo, the quantity, unit and direction are recorded — how much, in what, and whether it came off the vessel or went on. Direction matters more than it first appears: without it, a container report cannot tell a discharge from a load, and the throughput figure is the sum of two different things.

Status

A job moves through its own lifecycle from raised to complete. The service utilisation report reads those statuses to show what a port's resources actually spent their time on.
